Nix the tricks

Along with something grim, I wanted to share something helpful. How are we going to do better this year? One way will be by teaching how to think about math, rather than just using shortcuts and tricks.

As you’re starting to think about your first days of content teaching, it may be tempting to consider what “tricks” will help your students master the material. We know by know that most of these tricks just lead students to have misconceptions about the mathematical concept.

So here’s a great document that talks about some of the common “tricks” and better methods you might use with your students.
